XP - Open each folder in same window

I have XP Professional .. and in explorer folder options General Tab .. I have checked "Open each folder in the same window".

Yet when I click on a folder in the RIGHT pane .. a new window is always opened! (This does not happen when I click on a folder in the LEFT pane).

Any ideas??
