windows installer

I have a problem with, I think my msi stuff.I am running Windows XP Pro. The problem is , when I try to re-install my Office XP i keep getting the message

'this patch packet could not be opened. Verify that the patch packet exists and that you can access it'


Can anyone suggest a fix for this as I NEED my Microsoft Outlook to be running (lots of stuff I need)

I know the suite works as I have been running it for a couple of years now. I think the problem is to do with the Microsoft Installer (msi) becoming corrupted but at the moment it won't install any thing from my cd drive. Instead i get the above message

I would be grateful for any help you guys might be able to give me .

You should find Windows Support Tools on the Windows XP disc and run Msizap.exe (Windows Installer Zapper). WST also has it's own version of Msiccu.exe (Windows Installer Cleaner Utility).
