Brother MFC 235c printer, copier, scanner code 41 - could not identify device
Sorry - she is on windows xp - SP3
Hi,
My mam has a packard bell Imedia 1504.
Computer PB NEC PB13217901.
Serial no: 043349920141
Chassis Serial No: 50424E
Processor 2.2gh AMD ATHLON XP
HD WDC WD800B
She has had a Brother MFC 235c printer, copier, scanner attached to the pc for a few years. Suddenly it disappeared and wouldn't print.
I went through all the troubleshooters - no luck.
I tried to reinstall using the original Brother CD, but it kept hanging when it got to attach printer.
I then tried downloading from Brother but it stopped at the same point as the CD.
Checked device manager and all of the usb ports had yellow !! on them.
Tried to updated the drivers - code 41 - could not identify device.
After 4 days of trying to solve this, I got a pci card and put it into the slot - it loaded but again - yellow !!!'s.
Have tried other printer cables - same result.
Even tried setting up another printer different brother model - same issue with install disc and download.
I have now run out of ideas.
Please can someone help? All she wants is to use the printer.
Thank you in advance.
Paula

Yeah, recovery your PC and put it back to factory settings as it's possibly a software fault.

Thanks Kevin,
I do have the original master discs, but XP was preinstalled and I didn't get the xp disc. Would this be re-installed as part of the factory settings?
thanks again,
Paula

Hi Paula,
The Master DVD's for your Packardbell will reinstall the computer to it's original factory settings, as it was when first built in the factory. So make sure any data is backed up.
The reason I said recover is because you've tried several ways of installing your drivers, CD and Internet download. You've also brought a new PCi card and the fault stays the same.
So to rule out any software fault, a full recovery will determine this and should correct it.
Let us know how you go.

XP still having problems after factory reset
Hi,
I posted here recently regarding a problem with the brother printer. I did a factory reset and all was well - for a few days.
All of a sudden, the pc kept freezing then crashing again. I sent error reports back to Microsoft and their suggestions came back as an issue with outlook express 6.
So, following their instructions, I tried to repair OE - no joy. The next message came back that the .dbx files may be corrupt - so again, followed their instructions to regenerate the Identities Registry Key. Again - no joy.
Then it told me to reduce the hardware acceleration in display - did this - worked for a couple of hours and crashed again.
This PC is doing my head in!!!
Please can anyone suggest anything else?
Factory reset only resolved the crashing issue for a couple of days.
I did check OE after installing each individual software and it worked for the next day and night, then crashed again - repeatedly.

Additional Info from previous post
Sorry, forgot to mention the outlook issue started this thing all off - initially it was freezing then rebooting, then it just froze and crashed all together. Nothing had been done to outlook, it just went mental! Bizarre..
In addition to Belarc - Everest additional Info:
Also Chipset: North Brigdge Properties: Via Unichrome KM266 Pro/KM400(A)/KN400(A).
Southbridge properties: VIA VT8235.
There is also a message saying: Current AGP speed is lower than maximum supported. This may cause performance problems. Any ideas?
