I'm not sure if this helps, but after installing WinPcap4, my Network Connections folder was empty, ipconfig/all displayed only 1 line: "Windows IP Configuration", and network was not working.

What worked for me was booting in safe mode, then removing the adapters - then after reboot all were back with their connections set and operational.

I guess removing devices in Safe Mode removes them more 'completely'.

Smile The solution for the problem is here

I found the solution to the problem.

My computer were missing netman.dll

Therefor I downloaded the dll from this site and saved it in c:\windows\system32\

http://www.dlldump.com/dll-files/N_3.html

and then I registred the file in registry by typing in run:
regsvr32 netman.dll

I hope this will help you

Best Regards

check the local security policy

While this may not necessarily be the solution in all cases (and apparently not this one): One should check their Local Security Policy >> User Rights Assignment >> "Impersonate a client after authentication", it should have "SERVICE" listed along with "Administrators"

If "SERVICE" has been removed, either intentionally or via malware, icons will be absent, as well as a number of other oddities (search not functioning, etc.).

Should help the wayward admin trying to uneff what a self-proclaimed "power user" has borked.

Cheers,

X

Not 10 minutes ago I fixed same problem on mine.

My network connections folder was empty, my wireless icon gone, I could still connect to networks i had previously but new ones were not coming up or at least i couldn't bring up any list. I didn't do much to fix it but followed the tips here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/313242 and even though it said my drivers and what not were updated already and running fine, all the sudden my icons came back, like they just needed a nudge or wanted someone just to check on them. In any event i registered just to share this as it drove me nuts for 2 weeks. Good Luck.

Thumbs up Thank You Soo Much

I have been having the same problem where I went to network connections and nothing showed up and I couldn't connect to the internet at work, on the bookkeepers pc after I opened and cleaned it. I tried everything then went home and browsed around forums trying to find solutions. This was what fixed it for me. Thank you soo much for all your help

Hitting enter after each one. That should do it.
The dynamic libraries are hashed, likely due to some "Free" spyware search or crap program.
Enjoy!

Unhappy solution did not work for me!!!

I am also having same error when I try to do refresh in the network folder and also not able to see network connections icon in start menu.

I tried:
Start, Run. cmd.exe

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

and restarted the system. but no luck

Do I need to take care of anything else while running the above steps? I got "DllRegisterServer succeeded" for all the three steps.

Thumbs up This happened to me and I fixed it twice

This same thing happened to me and after I had turned off "system Restore" too. So, as you can see, I had to learn how to fix this. Anyway, it turns out that I had disabled "something" in services, (that is services.msc). I still don't know what kit was specifically, but what I did was get a program called XP Smoker Pro and went to "Tweaks" then went to "Services" and clicked on the "Default" button which basically reset all of the windows serices back to their default state. After this, I rebooted and there they were, I expeimented again by turning off some services and again they were gone...I repeated the fix and they came back. try this to see iof it works.

Start, Run. cmd.exe

regsvr32 netshell.dll
regsvr32 netcfgx.dll
regsvr32 netman.dll

The above procedure restored the visibility of the connection on windows server. Alough I didnt fix the main problem ( IE opens then closes, which is when I discoverd the network connctions folder was empty)the next set of properties are missing. Seems like there are no protocols installed, which is impossible since i'm conected using an RDC.

Something else to try...

The three lines above didn't fix my problem, as the last line failed. After replacing the netman.dll file, nothing changed. In looking all over the computer, I eventually got an error that mentioned the wzcsapi.dll file. Replacing that file in the system32 folder fixed the machine on which I was having the problem.

I have my doubts that this is a solution that will help a lot of people. It seems that there are any number of files that can get damaged or deleted and cause the empty network connections problem. But it fixed my problem, so I figured I should share it in case it might help someone else.

Good luck,
Garrote

Thumbs up Had same problem

I don't know how the icons in network connections folder went missing but i now know how to get them back. This should work, Verify the networking services setting:
a. In Control Panel, double-click Add or Remove Programs.
b. Click Add/Remove Windows Components.
c. Click Networking Services, and then click Details. Verify that Simple TCP/IP Services is turned on.I found the help here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/825826
