write behind cache

I can disable this in Windows XP Home version (My computer/Properties/Hardware/Device Manager/hardware properties/Policies) but with the Pro version I have running on another computer this option is not available - it just gives the 2 optimize buttons - both of which are greyed out. Does this mean that it is on or off and how can I change it?

I assume you are talking about a removable drive .Write behind caching is for removable drives such as zip.Write caching is for hard drives.Parallel zip drives do not support this.USB zip drives would show up functional and not greyed out.If you are refering to your hard drive write caching make sure that it supports this feature.

Sounds to me like you might be using Intel's application accelerator, which handles all that by default. I had similar experiences, especially with DMA/PIO until I just learned to trust it. Works for me. Hope this helps.
