XP NTFS Permisions

Hi,

I am pulling my hair out trying to sort this.

I am running XP pro. on a dual-boot machine that meets the HCL spec. Pre service pack 1 ( I don't want to install service pack 1). The basic IDE drives are NTFS and I login as my self with full administrative rights.

My problem is this: for some reason within XP I am unable to set the NTFS permisions for files and folders on any of the NTFS drives. The option is not there in the properties of the file or folder. When I login to 2k, the other system on the machine I have full NTFS functionality on all NTFS drives. and can set NTFS permisions for folders that I can't on XP.

Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting

If the Security tab is not available and you cannot configure permissions for users and groups:

* The file or folder that you want to apply permissions to is not on an NTFS file system drive. You can set permissions only on drives that are formatted to use the NTFS file system.

* Simple file sharing is enabled. By default, simplified sharing is enabled in Windows XP unless you are on a domain. To work around this behavior, disable Simplified Sharing.
