Conexant Modem

I just upgraded from Windows ME to Windows XP home edition and ever since my Conexant SoftK56 data, fax modem will not be quite. I have turned the speaker off everywhere I know to look and it still makes noise. The speaker is now on all of the time. Does anyone have any idea were to look...including in the Registry?

try looking here. i found lots of cool stuff, and also noticed a line that mentioned "speaker not shutting off properly after connection."
