CD copier spped still not detected correctly

Hi. I recently posted about my XP Pro not detecting my cd copier speed correctly. I got some replies which helped.

1. Unplug and reinsert cable
2. Remove Drive in safe mode.

Both these methods worked. But not for long. After about 10 minutes of usage OF Windos XP the CD Copier speed drops from writing at 24 to writing at 12.

I though fine. It could be that the CDRW Has had it. So I bought A new TEAC CDRW from PCWorld. After installing the new drive it worked like a dream but then after about 10 - 20 minutes the speed droped on the new drive again from 24 to 12. I got Brandnew cables and a new CDRW. And still I get the same prob. I can only assume now that this is to do with Windows XP Pro

System stats

MSI KT4A Ultra Motherboard
AMD Athlon XP 2800+
512 DDR RAm 333mhz
nVidia GForce titanium Graphics card

Windows XP Pro

Burning software Nero Burning Rom

Please help. I am used to burning at 24 speed and burning at 12 seems so slow.

THX in advance

do you have anything else plugged in to the same IDE cable? If so, can you find out whether it is having issues as well? It could possibly be that your IDE connector on your mobo is dirty or worse. Can you try connecting as slave on the primary channel, just to see if it is hard or software. Be warned, the spped of your harddrive may drop when it shares an IDE channel with an optical drive. It won't hurt anything, but it might take a while to load stuff. Hope this helps.

Thx for the reply curtybob.

My CDRW drive is set up as a slave while my dvdrom drive is the master. I changed the layout to make the CDRW the only drive on the second ide. I set it to master. I still got the same prob.

I tried to set it up as a slave on the primary IDE but i still got the same problem.

The only thing i can say is that I have never had this problem before. Its bugging me like hell. I didnt have this problem with Win98. Only since having XP Pro.

Ideally id like to have the full capcity of my CDRW but i dont think this is gonna happen. Unless there is a bug in XP or a bug on my PC. I dont know.

Any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thx Again.
