Outlook Express Opens Links In Small Windows
All of a sudden I have two unusual problems. Internet Explorer opens its links in tiny windows which must be maximized. I fixed this with instructions from PC Magazine. However, Outlook Express does the same thing when I click on links from an Email -- the Web links open in a little window. Nothing seems to alliviate the problem.
Also, I cannot open Internet Properties from the tool section in Internet Explorer -- to change my home page (a window says I must contact System Administrater). When I go to Internet Options from Start / Control Pannel / Internet Options -- the home page section on the General Tab is shaded out and cannot be changed.
Anyone know what in the world is happening??? Perhaps a windows update did this??
Regards,

Do you have Spybot? Spybot has a feature called "Immunize". Near the bottom of the "Immunize" window is a box with 3 "Protections", "Lock Hosts file.....", "Lock IE Start Page Setting Against User Changes (Current User)", "Lock IE Control Panel Against Opening From Within IE (Current User)".
If there is a check in one of these last 2 boxes, you'll get the symptoms that you describe in your second problem.

Hello Esaladuane,
Man, you are bad to the bone. The Immunize settings in Spybot was indeed my problem. (The Outlook Express problem was also solved.) Spybot is the finest program of its type out there, but I had not noticed these particular settings prior to this problem occuring.
Thanks for the much needed help.

I have Spybot but I don't see the 3 boxes you're talking about in the Immunize window. The only check box at the bottom is "Enable permanent blocking of bad addresses in Internet Explorer". My problem is more selective, I get small, unresizable windows on links from a certain Web site. It never used to do that.

brinybay - in newer versions of Spybot, those checkboxes are located in Tools (in the left hand pane)>IE Tweaks.

Found them, they only show if you're in Spybot Advanced Mode. The boxes aren't checked, so I think my problem is something different. Some links in some Web sites (not all) open a small, unresizable (and therefore unusable) window. These are Web sites I often use and it only started doing that recently.
