Speaker Volume Overlay

I recently upgraded a few home systems from Win98 to Win/XP. I must say the nightmares have been considerable, but I am working through them one by one.

One annoyance is that the speaker volume screen overlay that I used to get in Win98 is no longer working. The volume controls work, but I don't get any visual feedback to volume adjustment, mute, etc. This feedback used to show up as a screen overlay on the bottom left of the monitor. It would display briefly, then disappear.

Is there anyway to get this back ?

Many thanks,

I had the same thing in windows 98se, then it "magically" disappeared in XP. I didn't consider it a problem. I figured Microsoft got rid of it because they Assumed that it was a disruption.

Are you using your keyboard to control the volume? Try downloading software for your keyboard. There should be an option to display that notification when volume is modeifies/muted.

Red face

lol

My mistake. I thought they meant the on-screen changes (in Green for volume changes, in red for mute. Shows up on the bottom of the screen)

Start > Control Panel.
(In classic mode) >>Sounds and Audio devices
(In Category mode) >> Sounds, speech, and audio devices >> Sounds and Audio Devices.

Under "Device Volume", check the box that says "Place Volume icon in the taskbar".

That will place that icon resembling a speaker in the system tray.

I don't want to give up just yet.

Are you using your volume control on your keyboard?
--If so, then what keyboard do you have?
----Manufacturer (example: Logitech)
----Keyboard model (Example: Y-SE8)

We will be able to work from there.

Yes, keyboard volume controls in 2 different computers. One is a Memorex MX2700. The other is a Logitech cordless keyboard.

Regards,
