XP Pro - unable to reinstall, need help

RESOLVED:
It was the cd's, both of them. I got a third winxp cd, installed fine from here.

Original message:
Hoping someone can give me some advise, I'm having MAJOR problems installin Windows XP.
I've bought a new PC, and a new hdd for my existing PC. Now what I want to do is put WIn XP Pro on both, although I already have winxp on my existing PC, I want the OS on the new faster hdd.
Now first I tried installing on my existing PC:
P4 2.4, MSI 845PE MAx MB, 512 DDR PC2700, ATI 8500, Onboard snd, Lan, Liteon DRW, LG DVD, IBM 80gb hdd ( old one ), Maxtor 120gb 7200rpm 8mb cache (new one )
I've partitioned the new drive into two 10gb Fat 32 partitions, leaving the rest empty till winxp is on to do as I please. I've marked the first drive ( C: ) as active
Now I've booted up, ran ..i386\winnt, it starts copying over the files and then just hangs, it still says copying over files but in the bottom left where it normally shows what files are copying, nothing happens. If I reboot this ( after leaving it for more than an hour ), it starts up the winxp setup, but immediately gives an error saying it can't find the EULA and throws me out.
I've tried this a few times over, reformatting, reinstalling, same error.

I then tried installing my old win98 SE, this installed fine. I then ran the e:\setup from the winxp setup CD, this starts with the preinstall copying, finishes, then reboots, but when going back to setup, it gives an error saying that components are corrupt or missing and it can't continue.

So, I assumes it's the cd. So I borrowed a friends cd( still intent on using my own cd key though, although I was never prompted for this ). I went through the setup, both from a blank fat32 c: drive through to trying win98 SE and then upgrading, same issue.

I then thought it's probably something on the new hdd, so left this for now, went on to my new PC:
PC Chips 925, celeron2ghz, 512mb PC2700 ram, 80gb Seagate, Liteon DVD, Radeon9200, Sound blaster Audigy 2, standard floppy
Lo and behold, I get the same issue on here.

This is driving me nuts, and hoping someone can help me here and now before I have to turn to MS techsupport

Thanks, any advise or comments welcome
