Making some space and deleting files

Since getting ADSL my PC has been filling up with media content, programmes, and extra security stuff.
Trouble is I have just 1 gig space remaining.
Looking through the CDrive for stuff to delete I found the Local settings folder containing; Temp, Tempory Internet Files, Application Data and History.

Are any of these safe to empty out?
It holds around 4 gig of stuff in it and nothing that looks to vital.

Plesase help as I can no longer even write files to a CD to save for future memory upgrades.

Many Thanks

Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleanup.

This will list all the Temporary Files that are not required for XP operation and are safe to delete.

Also search for files *.tmp and delete those also.

Don't forget to empty the Recycle Bin.

Although the Help text doesn’t explain it clearly, Disk Cleanup lists only files in your Temp folder that are more than one week old. If you want to completely clean this folder out you’ll need to do so manually. Close all running programs and type %temp% in the Run dialog box; from the resulting Windows Explorer window, delete everything you find. Some files are not available for deletion until you reboot.
