Easy CD Creator 4 - Uninstall Problems

Hi,

My system is

Win XP Professional
Althon XP 2000
MSI KT3 Ultra Mb
256mb RAM
LG DVD
Cyber Drive CD Writer
40gb Fujitsu
Western Digital 20gb
Geoforce 4 Ti 4200

I recently took Win 98SE of my pc and installed Win XP Prof. I tall went okay until I decided to install my Easy CD Creator software. After installation I was advised by XP that this software was likely to corrupt XP so it disabled a driver called CDR4_2k.sys and it did not load it.

I uninstalled Easy CD Creator 4 but I am still getting the error message. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the CD and DVD in XP but it just uses this driver again.

I tried deleting the CDR4_2k.sys file (along with some other Adaptec files that had not been removed by the uninstall) but once this has been done the CD and DVD drives disappear in explorer and XP won't reinstall them.

On the face of it he CD and DVD still seem to work (I have not tried burning with the CD) but I get the error message every time I enter XP. IS there anyway of getting rid of the problem driver and replacing it with one that works or am I looking at a reinstall of XP.

Regards

you need to remove "upper filters" and "lower filters" from registry. Here are detailed instructions.

ECDC 4 has long been on the list of problematic software under XP. As a rule of thumb, Always check that software:

1. is listed as compatible with XP, or any other version of windows that you are intending to install;

2. does not have tons of bad reviews or forum posts.

Google will generally return plenty of info with very little input. Just type the name of the software and your operating system (Win XP, Me, 2000, 98 SE, 98, 95, NT, 3.1) and you should get an afternoon's worth of reading on the subject.
