Computer froze during a installation and now I have to recover

I was installing Microsoft Plus and my computer froze up on me and when I rebooted the computer it said "missing or corrupt file" C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\CONFIG\SYSTEM type R to restore with the XP disk.

So I did and typed C:\WINDOWS CHKDSK /P and also C:\ CHKDSK /P and EXIT to go into windows and still got the same message. Is there another command or something, I don't really want to reformat and start all over.

Thanks

Maybe I should just pay the price and call Microsoft and maybe they can fix my problem.
