Angry HELP - random lockups in IE6 under XP

HELP! Here is my set up:

Windows XP Home Ed
Athlon XP 1800+
Iwill KK266 Plus
640 MB PC133 Crucial RAM
nVidia TNT2 Ultra 32MB video card
SoundBlaster Live! 5.1
Western Digital 80GB Caviar 7200RPM HD
Maxtor 40GB 7200RPM HD
Lite-On 16x DVD-ROM
HP 9100i CR-RW
USB Intellimouse Explorer
USB Wireless internet
Enermax 430W power supply

My OS is loaded on the WD hard drive. I have updated XP with the latest updates as well as the TNT2 drivers (latest Detonators - 6.13.10.3082), the Intellimouse drivers, and the USB drivers for my internet connection (from FDTI). I recently upgraded to XP which is when I also installed the WD and Maxtor HDs, the Lite-on DVD drive, and went from 256MB RAM to 640MB RAM. Nothing is overclocked.

When I went to the new set up above, I started getting random lock-ups. The common factors in the lock-ups are as follows:

- It always occurs while I am in Internet Explorer (which is, of course, the
latest version - SP1).
- It always occurs when I am moving my mouse or clicking a button on my
mouse.
- It always occurs when the mouse pointer is either on a web page that has a
bar on the side (the page is longer than the screen so I have to
scroll) or is inside a box within a web page that has a scroll bar
because the info does not all fit in the box (hope this last one makes
sense).
- I have to reset my computer via the power button on the case (ctrl/alt/del
does not work).
- It is a COMPLETE lock-up. The little green bar on the bottom loading a web
page freezes as does the system tray image of the two computers showing
light blue screens indicating my computer is sending/receiving data.
NOTHING I do makes anything change or move from the point of lock-up.
- I do not get an error message upon restart.
- This usually occurs within 10 minutes of being on the internet and is
HIGHLY annoying.

I cannot figure out what is going on here and did not have this problem before XP (I had my wireless internet connection with Windows ME). Any suggestions or thoughts would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thanks.

well here is my sugestion.... like i say to everyone else with major pc problems is to "CLEAN INSTALL" windows xp.

clean install = format (erase all data on hard drive) and then install windows xp onto a blank hard drive

p.s. also make sure u dont have any viruses!!!

a friend of mine had the exact same problem a little while back he had the same vid card. He found out that it was a problem with spyware that had been dropped on his system from other programs and his joystick program. A simple sweep of his system with a prgram called Adaware fixed this. Go to Google or Yahoo or whatever you search engine is and type Adaware into the search bar. Try that before you take such drastic measures as formatting.

Try turning off all your Startup and non-Microsoft servces; one of them may be kicking IE in the head.

To do this:
Start--Run type msconfig in the Run box hit OK.
That will open teh System Configuration Utility.
Go to the Services tab, near the botom check the box for Hide all Microsoft Services; when that is done it will show you all teh 3rd party services. Uncheck each one.
Then go to the Startup tab at the top. Near the bottom right clck Disable All, this will turn off all of your startup programs.

If your ISP needs a startup program to connect you to the net, just recheck that box, but usually there is not one.

Once that is done, Apply--Close--Restart.

When the computer reboots you will see some screens that basically say that you used the System Configuration Utility hit OK on first screen and Cancel on the next.

Then test to see if you can lockup the computer, if the computer does not lockup, then one of the items you turned off was causing the issue. If the lockup comes back it may be caused by a device driver.

GOOD LUCK
