deleting duplicate files in XP

In transfering files to a new laptop with XP, I ended up with a large quantity of photos and wav files in My Documents, where I intended, but the same files were unintentionally copied to Documents and Settings. Tried but could not delete this mirrored set of files . Also unable to move them to their proper place. any help appreciated.

Read your post. I'm in Win2K Pro at the moment so this should be the same.The My Documents folder you see listed in Windows Explorer is just a shorcut to where it resides in your Documents and Settings directory. I'm sure you noticed that the contents of the My Documents folder in the Documents and Settings directory is the same as when you open the My Documents folder listed by itself in Windows Explorer. If you right click on that folder and select properties >look at the Target section > you will see it's just a shorcut to your Documents and Settings account directory.So you don't have duplicate files.
