XP service pack download problem

I must be a big dummy. I have tried downloading the XP service pack XP1 upgrade, and I keep getting a message that I cannot connect to the server after I have downloaded part of the install. I get a message to go to the XP service pack website and read problems downloading the service pack, but I cannot find that anywhere on that page! Any help would be appreciated.

If that didn't work, you should probably try a download manager (like Flash Get) because these have a resume feature.

Dear Tntabs,

You may not be aware that you do NOT need to install SP1 before

installing SP2 on your computer. HOWEVER, I have heard/read a LOT that

a better way to go is to slipstream your original XP CD and SP2 and then

install all of the updates that came out since SP2 was released and then

install your proggies.

Your box will run a lot better that way. After you do that, check

out my post at another forum so this will be the LAST time you invest

this much time doing anything with your box!

1. SP2 download at: http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/xpsp2.html

2. Slipstreaming SP2 with XP instructions:

http://www.winsupersite.com/showcase...slipstream.asp

3. ALL of the Micro$oft updates after SP2's release are available at:

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=409564

Look for "FTP Mirror provided by niksa: December 2005 Full | Lite"

http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=419470

Look for "FTP Mirror provided by niksa: Jan 2006 Update"

4. My post: http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=29670

Good luck and let the forum know how things worked out.

I agree!! Quit fooling around with SP1 and download and install SP2 [It also contains SP1].
Then slipstream SP2 with your XP version. To do that, I would use the free little program: AutoStreamer http://www.neowin.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=223562 . It make the slipstreaming process much easier to accomplish.

I don't think the problem is the Service Pack itself. I think the problem is the Internet Explorer Timeout which means he can't finish a long download. I could be wrong though...

If he has Broadband service, he should be able to pull it down in fifteen or twenty minutes. Telephone is another story. As a last resort, he could order the SP2 CD from Microsoft.
