System restore CD and XP NTFS

Hi

I currently have ME as my OS on my desktop, and when I purchased the machine I got a system restore CD (a mirror image of the hdd)instead of the WinME cd.

My question is this.

If i was to install WinXP onto my hdd as the new OS and was to use NTFS instead of FAT32 (don't you just love all these acronyms) and then decided I didn't like it or some technical problem crept up, could I just stick my system restore cd in the cdrom drive and write over the NTFS formatted disk with the FAT32 mirror system restore cd?

If that doesn't make sense it's cause it's 0330 in the morning and i should really be asleep.

Cheers

yes that makes perfect sence and i am real familair with that stuff

well if you converted it to NTFS with that windows xp install cd and u wanted to go back to windows me with your restore disk u could not do that unless ya converted it back to FAT32.

but... u should be able to convert it back to fat32 using that windows xp cd.... like for example say u where running windows xp and it was NTFS and u where like i wanna go back to windows me u could just stick in your windows xp cd and once it gets to that screen to format etc... just format it as fat32 again and once it completes that and tries to install windows xp again just reset tha pc then pull out your windows xp cd and put in your restore cd for windows me

but if you want to play it safe i would make a windows me startup disk cause this way if something was to really screw up u could use that to fdisk your pc and format it back to fat32 and then i know for sure that u could use your restore cd once again

If your supplier did not have the foresight to realise you might try another filesystem, then an ME boot disk is required to remove the non-dos partition (NTFS) and write a standard one back.
Reboot and format (format c from the command prompt in case the CD does not do this either.
