XP Shutdown problems

Hope someone can help me with this problem.
Everytime I go click on Shut Off computer in Windows XP,
it reboots the computer and takes me back to the login page.
Can someone plz tell me how to fix this problem?

well first of all i would recommend u install SP1 (service pack 1) for windows xp!!! which you can get here

NOTE: this file is about 133MB!!! but it is recommended by microsoft that u install it

after that is installed (which aint hard to do) then see if your problem is still there

I had a very simular problem, when I would shutdown XP Pro just hung, the mouse froze. As so as I disconected my USB joystick everything worked as it should. I hope it helps

Try this

Click Start, and then click Control Panel.
In Control Panel, click Performance and Maintenance, and then click Power Options.
Click the APM tab.
Check to select the Enable Advanced Power Management Support check box, and then click OK.

Once you check that box, see if the computer will shut down correctly.
