Firstly got to

Start > Control Panel > Sound and Audio Devices > Sounds and check to see which Program Event is making the noise you are hearing.

Let us know then we can investigate further.

But if you tell us what the actual Program Event is making the noise we have a starting place.

The noise means something!

Sorry mate that means nothing,

Warning wise on my XP system I have ...

Critical Stop

Device Failed to Connect

Program Error

but no 'Standard Warning Signal'

Each sound means something different.

Can anybody else out there help with this problem, I don't have "Standard Warning Signal" in my Sounds > Program Events so am stuck trying to determine what the problem is.

Cheers
