XP Boot Issue...Weird One
My computer at home has become infected with the backdoor.assassin.k trojan. I use Norton, and I went to the Symantec web site, which details how to remove the virus. It told me to reboot the computer in safe mode. So, I ran ‘msconfig’, clicked the safe boot option, and restarted. Upon reboot, everything is normal until after the Windows XP splash screen w/the blue progress bar. When the splash screen disappears, the monitor disconnects (the power light on the monitor flashes on and off). It seems like the computer freezes or just plain dies on me. The screen turns black, and my monitor disconnects i.e. the monitor power light flickers on an off. I tried booting back into normal mode and lkgc mode, but the same thing occurs. I also pulled out and reinserted the video card. Any ideas of what might be happening? Is this a virus, video card, or OS issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated...
