Leave host monitor on, while using Remote Desktop

Hi, I use remote desktop to connect to a networked PC that I use as a DVD/media player connected to my TV and stereo. I have another PC in the same room, so I'd like to use the keyboard/mouse on that PC to connect to the media PC and control it. Only problem is that when I remote desktop, the monitor/TV on the media PC reverts to the logon screen. Is there a way I can remote desktop and still have the host computer show what's going on?
Thanks.

It is built like that for security reasons.

There is no way to have the desktop showing with Remote Desktop.

If you use Remote Assistance, which is similiar, and lets you control the other computer, it does show the desktop while you control it.
But, you need to be at the computer to accept the Remote Assistance invitation.

Hi "dankingdc" , "Grendel" is right, but there are other means of achieving what you want,, visit this site : http://www.radmin.com and download their trail client (remote Administration client),, you will be able to monitor and control as many system as you want (given you have a decent system).

cheers

p.s; I have used Radmin for past two years and it works great.

Thanks

Thanks for the responses guys. I was pretty sure that was the case, but I figured it was worth a shot. I knew there had to be programs that accomplished what I want, but I was hoping it was somehow integrated into XP. I'll give radmin a try. (The host computer is a 550 pIII, and the client computer is a athon 1700+XP)

I'm struggeling with the same problem.

I'm working with a crestron panel, and this has only remote desktop client on it. It is a Windows CE panel an it is impossible to load a VNC client on it.

The panel would be used to control the connect computer, and the image of th pc must be left on.

So, Microsoft decided to clear the original display and as I read there is no way to tweak it.
So I was wondering if there's a server program which support the connection of a Remote desktop client.

Thanks,

DimitriDC
