XP temporary freeze ups???

First of all here are my specs

Shuttle AK31 MB
AMD XP2000+
WD 80GIG HD
GF4 4200ti
256MB DDR 3000


I just put together this computer, formatted HD, and loaded XP Pro. XP seems to freeze periodically, usually just for a few seconds. Sometimes whatever program I'm in at the time will say "not responding" , sometimes not. I am still able to move the cursor but there is a delay on everything I click. I have uninstalled all the programs I loaded (only a couple), but still have the same problem. I was hoping someone might have an idea before I format and start from scratch. Thanks

Although the minimum specs for XP is 128MB RAM and you have 256MB, the problem could be that the programs that you are using need more memory. I would recommend upgrading your memory to at least 512MB.
