How do you remove the "Safely Remove Hardware" button?

I have the disk reader for my digital camera plugged in to my computer, and whenever I do, I have this annoying icon in the system tray that says "Safely Remove Hardware". But I don't want to remove it. Is there any way to get rid of this icon? Also, when I plug in my digital camera, it automatically creates two drives, one which is always empty and never used. (I think it is because there are two different card slots on my reader. The problem is, I don't even use one of them. Is there a way to remove the drive I don't use?

Thanks,
Mike

Mike,, it see like this is your first time owning a Digital Camera!?! is it ? the reason that ICON is there is to let you know that an external device has been plugged it to your computer (even though you know that) but not every body pays attention to detail like you, they may forget. so in order for you to remove the device without corrupting the operating system ,Microsoft put a button there , anytime you want to remove the card you have right click on it and say "disable or remove" that's when operating system will stop using the card as a device and it will be safe to remove it.

As for two devices, one it for the card reader and the second one it for the direct connection to your camera, that has nothing to do with your PC slot.
