computer hangs right before bootup

I recently turned my cpu on and after my mother board logo which always comes up, my windows xp home doesn't load it just hangs on the blank (black) screen. I just added RAM to my cpu but that can't be the problem. The thing is, out of like 30 tries maybe 2 times it would actually boot and i could use my cpu so when i shut down to try it again it would begin to hang again right after the motherboard logo (which is the first thing i see when my cpu is turned on) what could this be????
i need to get my cpu back.

before I start... the CPU (Central Processing Unit) is a processor on the motherboard which shouldn't be confused with the unit itself.

If you recently installed new memory and then started to get this problem i would say that you may have some faulty memory. Although All your data including the OS (Operating System) is installed and stored on the HDD (Hard Disk Drive), everytime you start up your machine everything you access gets loaded into memory. If you have a faulty memory module the PC won't be able to remember what it's doing and will sit there waiting.
