Problem is resolved !!

Thank you ESALUDUANE, milomorai and jmatt,

I appreciate your responses to this problem. I did learn some stuff about the computer from following your instructions. So, I was just ready to download the wanadoo RefeeshForce when , I chickened out. I just hate downloading stuff I really don't know. Since , I also, did have that stupid blaster worm. So, I went instead to microsoft technet - and I found a real toll free number for support. We went to the compatibility tab in the Lexmark Scan and Copy Program and un-checked 256 colors. Yes..it was a good moment. Back to normal!
I also asked him how I would re-install XP if I wanted to, and he said that he would send me 2 free recovery discs! Later, in my email there was a confirmation of the support and confirmaion of the discs that he was sending, but, the one in between said "HP Proof of Purchase RE: Fax from Fax" and they asked for my mastercard number, because it said that they could not confirm my proof of purchase date or warrenty. I paid for the puter by check. That creeped me out. Thank you and see you later! One more question. Could the blasterworm still be in system restore?

Yes, it's possible. Windows protects System Restore files from being accessed by any 3rd party software - and that includes anti-virus programs. Here's Symantec's page on it:
