Unhappy Various XP Issues...:{-HELP!

Recently my PC has been having major problems with restarting properly ( sometimes ntldr is missing , quick powerdown will fix that sometimes, 3 times now data is corrupted won't restart) and also having issues of blue screen crashes.

I just did a fresh install of XP Home after formating my drive, updated all service packs, drivers etc etc, and I still get blue screen areas, maybe 2-3 times a day, usually after I boot up, becuase the longer I leave the PC on, the more stable it seems.

My other most recent problem is XP is not recognizing my 1gb of Ram, its only recognizing 896mb...very odd as it recognized it a few months ago before most of these problems began.

I also JUST had an issue with my IE favorties and other user detials being erased every time I log on, basically "Groundhog Day" scenario, except it keeps the files I have, just not the user settings, IE favorites, auto-complete etc.
This is very recent and occured after I installed the XP blaster worm fix, so maybe that bugged something up, although it should have already been taken care of by service packs. My PC had to go back to a restore point becuase some files were corrrupted or soemthing?

I have ran countless Scan Disks, Nortan updated Scans to no avail.

My bootable HD is fine as far as the tech company can tell, as they supposedly ran a hardware test on it. They did have to take a Backdoor.sdbot the last time it was in (9/17/03)

What the heck is going on? I can't afford another trip to the PC shop, especially when they seem to miss the problem.

Any diagnostic programs that can figure this out?

What is size of your hard drive ?
what type of Mother board do you have ?
are you sure that your mother board support 1 Gig of RAM ?
Do you have you momory stick mix and match by any chance or all are the same type and same speed ?
What kind of Video card do you have ?

Spec of your computer may hold a clue to solve your issue.

cheers

My HD is a Seagate 40gb 5400rpm and it is about 2 and half years old.

My MOBO is a Asus A7v266-E also 2 half years old and it can support up to 3gb of RAM.

I beleive the memory is all the same DMM/SDRAM, should be all DDR. Something is screwy with one stick perhaps, or maybe the attachment thing is messed up. I plan on taking one out and seeing if stability changes, although I need to probably do another format and install of windows again, or perhaps I can restore to a certain point.

My video card is a Nvidia Geforce 4 Ti 4200.

i doubt you will ahve to do a clean install again, it does sound like you ahve faulty ram, what you should do is take it ALL out and put 1 stick in play it see how it goes then take that one out and put another in keep doing that till you find the faulty stick of ram. also ahve you made sure you ahve all the correct latest drivers for you hardware?

I am pretty sure I have all the latest stuff. I had this Ram installed for awhile and didn't have any of these problems until about a month or 2 ago, so the 1gb of ram was good for at least a month or 2.

how many sticks of ram do you ahve are they 2 512 or 512 and 2 256 sticks? also after reading your origonal first post it does sound like maybe the sdybot before you destroyed it may of made to many changes to your computer were a reinstall will be in order, to be honest there is nothing better than a fresh cleran install providing you do not mind reinstalling all updates putting software back on and such. if you ahve the time i would go for a clean install. you also say that you are having trouble with dll files your pc may well be to corrupted without an install. maybe i am wrong. it is always hard to diagnose without seeing it

The shop supposedly cleaned the sdbot virus out and then I did a format and fresh install of XP after that.

A few days later these problems started happening again and I was really surprised. Perhaps the virus is on my non-boot drive, although I scanned that too.

it should not be there then, why don't you run an online virus scan from HERE just click scan now it will ask you do want to install there stuff click yes then when that is done you can scan for viruses i use it alongside my own installed virus checker. now if you do not have a virus it still could be your memory or it may be your PSU (power supply) it realy is hard to say. but you should check for a virus first if none then do what i said with your memory, also you do not 1gig for XP to run 512 is good enough so if you ahve a faulty stick no problem you will still have enough memory, also what size are the sticks of mem you ahve?

Installation Problems after WinXP Updates

WinXP and Canon Printer-Multipass C530

I have updated with all of the Critical updates and updated my Win XP driver twice.

It still will not install correctly. One of the errors I receive is "Failed to connect mpservic to NT servers", I don't know what the "NT" refers to and I'm sure it's quite simple. I have a feeling that this little thing (or big thing) is causing the installation to not be completed.

What does anyone else think? It worked fine before all of the upgrades and updates were installed.

If they formated the disk it doesn't mean they removed a virus in MBR (if there is one - as u say after few days u had the same problem). U can do that, with debug... from windows 98 startup disk... And about the previosly mentioned problems with RAM etc., i bet your CPU is the problem, so if u can do a test with another CPU

I ran that virus scan, found one virus in my non-boot drive, deleted it, don't think that had anything to do with it though.

I Formated the HD, not them, and them fresh installed it. Gonna try the RAM test later. Still looking for good diagnostic programs out there that can sense problems with hardware/software not just tell me what I have.
