annoying windows messenger pop up

I keep getting this windows message whenever I connect. It says: Windows messaging. A newer version is available. You must install the newer version. Would you like to do this now, Yes, No. If you click yes it starts a download and then stops with some other stupid message. If you click no it says it cannot verify the file and would you like to go to the website. If you click yes it takes you to Microsoft. You cannot make it go away!! I tried disabling windows messaging. Still there. HELP

put this command in **Run** option off the start menu and watch Messenger go byebye

I got so frustrated with Windows Messenger I decided to uninstall it completely. It's tricky because you cant do it from the Add/Remove programs list, but I found a good trick for it!
This will literally take a second, I found this command on the web when I was having similar frustrations with Windows Messenger popups. I used this command to uninstall Windows Messenger completely....
Go to the Start menu
Select Run
Copy and Paste this command

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

With this command in the RUN option off your start menu, Windows Messenger will be gone for good. I would make sure to save this command onto a disk, so you will always have it if you ever need it again.

Send a message via ICQ to CornPopz
You can also just go into msconfig, disable msmsg (or msmsgs), and then go to the Program Files folder and rename the folder "Messenger." If it says that you can't do that, then Ctrl+Alt+Delete and end the process msmsg.exe (or msmsgs.exe).

That's waht I did...messenger is effectively killed.

I started getting this pop up a few days ago, did a search in google, and this is the only page that came up.

Thanks to everyone for your replies. This command got rid of the pop up.

RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\INF\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove

I have a related question and don't know if it's a problem. I ran these shield tests that say my computer is well protected, but I'm not so sure about that.

http://grc.com/x/ne.dll?rh1dkyd2

The first 1056 ports are okay, but when I checked the "other" ports there are hundreds of them that are open and being used by the IP# 169.254.246.92.

Is this okay, or is this a virus that is using my computer?

Thanks.
