Resolution Settings change after startup

After the computer boots-up, the resolution settings change to the lowest possible settings (every time). I am able to correct it, but I can't find the way to keep this from happening--it's a real pain. Any help is appreciated.

No ? or ! on the screen anywhere.

Computer specs: Dell Latitude C400 (laptop); 1.2 gig, 512 mb ram; Windows XP professional version 2002 operating system. (not sure what else you need)

the first time this happened (a few weeks ago) was when I had opened a joke video that a friend sent and while in the middle of playing (about 15 second clip) the resolution reset. It's happened ever since. unfortunately I don't have the file anymore.

Thanks in advance for any help!

not saying your friend did this intentionally, but it could have been a infected file, even though your on-board virus may say you are clean, lets double check it by doing a on-line scan, right click your anti-virus and disable or shut it down. now go to this link follow the directions, allow the applets to install by clicking yes on the pop up for panda only.

if panda comes up clean, or with a virus, either way if you still have the trouble post again and will dig a bit deeper.
