You could always hit the windows key between the ctrl and alt keys, but this is just temporary, but it will bring up your start menu. There will be others out there that know how to fix this permanetly. Good luck.

If you're using XP Pro, you can use the Group Policy editor (Gpedit.msc) under the following location to configure Start menu features:
User Configuration \ Administrative Templates \ Start Menu and Taskbar

If you're using XP Home, go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Policies\Explorer and see if any commands relevant to the Start menu have been added.

If you can use the Classic Menu, but not the new XP Start menu, you will see an entry called "NoSimpleStartMenu" with a DWORD value of (1). Change this to (0).

I had just installed Kazaa-Lite and i down loaded to movies one being the music video for Stacy's Mom and the other being a "film on human anatomy" anyways thats wut i downloaded, i pressed the button between the cntrl and alt key, that didnt work, and for the real technical people trying to help me out Im running Windows XP home edition, you'll have to be very detailed with the instructions on how to fix it because im kind of good/bad with computers, and the whole task bar has dissappeared. Also I just had a new video card installed and I can't remeber if the taskbar had dissapeared before or after that. Im positive that once i came home and used it taskbar was gone.

kazaa is famous for it's viruses, do a online scan to make sure you are rid of it, if it does not return after the virus has been removed, post again.

click that link, download adaware, install the program, run it, see if the problem is still there.
that was alot of virus, and possible corruption, make backups of your files or anything you dont want to loose, emails, music, favorites list, documents, and pictures ect... this may be hard to repair, and if the spyware scanner does not fix the problem, may need to consider a clean install of xp, which means format and reinstall.

You might check and see if you didnt accidently move the task bar. Bring your mouse all the way to the bottom of the screen, then hold left click on mouse and drag up to see if that brings it up. You can also do this on top and sides of screen also. You also need to run some kind of antivirus program going by that list you showed. Good Luck.

This same problem is happening to me. I just installed a virtual cd drive, magicISO or something. My taskbar was kinda half there after the installation was finished, but my computer was frozen. So i force restarted it, and now it won't show up at all. There is just a thin gray line on the bottom of the screen. I would also like to add that for some reason I can't open programs on my desktop by double-clicking them. I have to go to the task manager, then run, then the program. When a program s minimized, it just turns into a little bar on the bottom of the screen. I can't get on to the internet for some reason either, so i can't run an online antivirus. I can try running norton on my computer tho. Thanks for all the help so far!
