Codecs dont work

after messing around with various software unistalling etc i now cant get any video codecs to work.

The only types that work are .mov (in quicktime 6) and .wmv (in mediaplayer 9)

I have tryed reinstalling them, unistalling them to no avail.

Is there any software that will wipe all remains of old codecs that may remain?

(Windows XP SP1 all latest updates)

You can get Absolutly all the Necessary Video\Audio Codex from here:

http://www.klitesite.com/

(plus a quicktime and real player alternative) keep checking for updates.

Like i say installing more codecs wont fix the problem, already dun that, even with the codec pack you reconmended before.

The installing of wmp9 does seem to be the start of my difficulties if i remember rightly. How do i put wp8 back on?

when you installed wmp9 it made a system restore point, if it has not been to long, you may still have the rstore point. it is one of the about the only way to remove it and go back to wmp8 without more problems then you have now.

Unfortunately it's too far back.

The problem I'm having is that some .wmv files have very very low volume and others not.

Darryl, this is my opinion only. it wont be long and service pack 2 will be out for xp, and it will have wmp9 as part of the install even though right now it causes problems and all the "fixes and patches" they come out with seem not to help or make things worse. if you can use a different media player to get by untill they do find a fix for it it would be better then a format.

Thanks I'll try Real Player but I wonder if it's not a sound card problem?
