Run an updated Virus Scan on the system. Last time that happened to my dad he had CIH on the computer. Luckily we caught that in time.

i believe Braxas is correct, but even still upgraded copies of xp never work as well as a clean install.

=====================================

Do you have the AVG Outlook Express plugin, enabled ?
Don't tick , Use Outlook Express 5 Plug In . Slows it down too much .
Try disabling it - my OE performance improved greatly once the plugin was removed.
Go to AVG Control Centre, Email Scanner tab to uncheck the plugin.

Slow OE6
http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2003/2003-04-28.htm
Finally after reading literally hundreds of posts on the IE6
newsgroup, I found a post by a mvps.org tech who was replying
to another person s problem that sounded somewhat similar to
the problem I had. Their solution was to search for the file
named Hosts (no extension, just Hosts) and rename it to Hosts.txt
I did this, and as is so often the case with other computer
problems, while the search for the solution may take literally
hours upon hours, the implementation of the fix, took mere
seconds.

Fix Outlook Express slowdown when MSN Messenger is disabled

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Classes\CLSID]

Find the key {FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541} and under it select the folder IniProcServer32. In the right panel of regedit double-click on the (Default) entry at the top and completely delete the value data it contains. Now do the same for the LocalServer32 folder as well.

Or ,

Simple Outlook express loading after msn messenger is removed

For those of you who have a slow-loading outlook express after msn messenger has been removed this may help. I tried the other tweaks stating this and i didn't have the registry settings that it said. So I looked at the options and found this:

1. Open Outlook Express
2. Click on tool, options
3. Click on the general tab
4. Uncheck "automatically log on to windows messenger"

Talking problem solved with your help,thanks

this worked (disabled messenger)

Sometimes removing or disabling Windows (or MSN) Messenger causes OE to open slowly. This will shown by an entry in the system error log: The server {FB7199AB-79BF-11D2-8D94-0000F875C541} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout. To fix this, open Regedit and navigate to this key:

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\InProcServer32

In the right-hand pane, double-click on the (Default) value and delete whatever is entered there, leaving it blank. Click OK. Now perform exactly the same step with the key directly underneath, namely

HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT
\CLSID
\{FB7199AB-79BF-11d2-8D94-0000F875C541}
\LocalServer32

Once both (Default) values are empty, OE will open normally.

Thanks Murffy
