Thank you titch98!!
Hey all,
I googled this forum thread because I've had the same problem as soulm4t3 up there, with all the problems he had:
- Wouldn't let me delete it.
- Wouldn't let me rename it.
- Wouldn't delete or rename in Safe Mode.
I even tried renaming and deleting through the command prompt. All it did was "write" the directory path as if it did what I told it to, but because of the access restriction, it did nothing to the file.
So I eventually came across what titch98 recommended and it worked, and I registered to this site just to thank him. What he said was the following.
"..Right-Click on the file icon and in menu selected "Open with....". Selected Notepad as program to use (.NFO is a system Info text file). The PC returns the following error......."This file does not exist......would you like to create a new one?". Click "Yes" and it'll give a blank Notepad screen, where you should just scribble some text and then save the data as a txt file.."
The file still had the misc, unassigned icon Windows gives these files, but upon double-clicking on it, it opened just like a txt file, with the text I scribbled. Then I closed it, right-clicked on it and.. DELETE! IT'S GONE BABY!!!
Thanks again, titch! The problem of not being able to even delete it in Safe Mode was really starting to worry me, and now I've got a way around it if it happens again.
FYI, it was an incomplete file of bit torrent info that I wanted to get rid of, and of course wouldn't go away like others. So be warned if you ever find yourself in this situation.
