Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service help

Hi I did something really stupid and decided to disable Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service not knowing that doing this can cripple your system.... Ive tried to enable it back but it wont let me , this service is the core of the computer , without it nothing works right , ive tried going into services.msc and going into properties but the window doesnt appear , and i cant use system restore because it needs the "Remote Procedure Call" to work with it.

I've searched the web a bit and found people that had the same problem as me. they changed the value of RpcSs in regedit . they changed the Start key to a 2 and it worked for them.

I tried it and when i boot into windows xp it hangs for about 3 minnutes saying "RpcSs is starting ..." but it doesnt seem to start once you get into windows . Can anyone help me?! i'm really stuck because I can't format my computer ,

Thanks alot!!!

Eric

This is from the Black Viper's site for XP.

Remote Procedure Call (RPC)
"This service is rather vital. Practically everything depends on this service to be running. This is also the only service that you cannot disable via the Services MMC. Previously, if you disabled this service in Windows 2000, your computer would become unbootable. What I am trying to tell you is leave this service on automatic and absolutely DO NOT disable it. If, for whatever reason, the service became disabled and you can no longer boot your system, please read the information here for a way to fix it."

A Repair Install or starting over with a Clean Install may be the only options left unless you have a good System Restore point or you have a backup (Ghost, Drive Image, etc.).
