Audio CD playback problems..

Hi. I'm having a slightly annoying problem. Audio CDs played in Media Player 9 and Winamp 3 are 'stuttering' (both in the same way - a kind of slightly distorted skipping), but in the basic 'Media Player 2', they play perfectly. Odd.

My system is otherwise pretty solid. I know Windows XP very well and run a lean system with all the tweaks, but can't work this one out. My CD drive is a TDK 16/10/40 with the latest firmware, soundcard is an M Audio Delta 24/96, also with the latest drivers. CD audio ripping in any program works fine too.

I have tried changing all the settings in both MP 9 and Winamp with no perceptable difference. The only one that does make a difference is error correction. Even with this on, there are still clicks. It is not a proper solution anyway, it's designed for scratched disks as a last resort really.

Grateful for any help on this.

Have you tried "analog playback"?
Tools > Options > (tab) Devices > Properties (for the drive you're using) > "Playback Settings" > "Analog"

Hi. Thanks for the reply. I'm afraid the analogue playback makes no difference. I think what I really need to do is try another CD rom drive. Time to get down on the floor with a screwdriver I suppose.. Oh no. Cheers anyway.
