Hi Folks:
I have an MSI KT3 Ultra2-R MB, AMD 2200, 60 gb Maxtor ata133
7200 HD, 512 mb ram (Kingston), ATI Radeon 9000 128 and
running fully updated Win XP Pro. I have this computer hooked
up through a Linksys router. Normally, I can hook up any
computer with a NIC and have instant internet access. Well, all
of a sudden and unexpectedly I could not hook up to the internet
despite having a LAN connection. I tried the repair option and it
came back with "failed to renew the Ip address" or some such
verbage. I tried everything including changing the network card
and even trying a different PCI slot and I still kept getting the
DNS error screen unable to connect to the website, etc.
I finally went into control panel Hardware Device Manager and
removed the network adapter. Shut down the computer, took
out the NIC card and restarted the computer once and shutdown.
Put the network card back in and restarted. Win XP saw it and
reset it up and.....Walla....I could then connect to the internet.
Life is good now !!
Rather than submit a problem thread; I thought it would be nice
to submit a solution thread in case someone else runs into
similar problems.
Also, some time back I had a problem with an Abit board that
kept starting up upon shutdown. The solution to that problem
ended up being replacing the cheap 300 watt PS that came with
the case with an Antec 350 watt PS.
Just a couple of case studies that ended well. I hope someone
benefits from these suggestions.
Have a good one.
Charlie
