cannot access Documents and settings

hi all, i' m having a hell of a time trying to figure out this problem..here's how it goes

i have WInXp pro. sp1 edition installed on my machine on c:. last night, i was trying to install ms visual studio.net but for some reason, it owuldn't let me..it kept on failing during the installation, so upon my friend's suggestion, i restarted my pc..but now it doesn't get past the windows startup screen. i can't even get to the login screen. it keeps on restarting. someting to do with a bad ms visual studio.net installation maybe??

so now i have all this imp. documents stored in my documents under my user account. but since i can't boot into windows (on c:), i reinstalled windows on another partition (d:) hoping to be able to copy the my documents folder ( from windows installation on c:). but it keeps on telling me access denied. is there any way i can access "my documents" of my c: windows installation while i'm running on an diff. installation of windows xp ( on another partition (d:)????)

i tried running win xp repair and also rebuilding the boot.ini file and running fixboot under the recovery console. but i still can't seem to get the c: windows installation to work.

any help would be appreciated!!
