Unhappy Resolving system conflicts and multiple network connections?!

Hi all,

From mid August my computer has kept popping up windows explorer error messages and occasionally internet explorer error messages as well. The screen goes black and then a couple of applications that are running in the startup area seem to disappear. This happens every time now I'm on my machine - usually after about a minute or so of booting it up. It also crashes on all 3D games now - after about 5 seconds of the actual game playing. Then it churns out a similar 'this app had to be closed' error message. Most of the time it creates a appcompat.txt document - I'm collecting em think I must have about 5 or 6 in my temp files. (I can post them up but they're very long!)

The one thing I have noticed is that I have a hell of a lot of system conflicts on both I/O ports, IRQs and memory addresses which I'm sure isn't good - all related to NVIDIA sound and graphics cards.

Listed below:

I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 - PCI bus
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x00000CF7 - Direct memory access controller

I/O Port 0x00000000-0x000003DF - NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge
I/O Port 0x00000000-0x000003DF - NVIDIA GeForce4MX440 with AGP8X

IRQ20 - Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller
IRQ20 - NVIDIA nForce MCP Audio Processing Unit

IRQ 21 - Standard Enhanced PCI to USB Host Controller
IRQ 21 - NVIDIA nForce Audio Codec Interface
IRQ 21 - OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller

IRQ 22 - Standard Open HCD USB Host Controller
IRQ 22 - NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter

Memory Address 0-EC000000-0xEDFFFFFF - NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge
Memory Address 0-EC000000-0xEDFFFFFF - NVIDIA GeForce4MX440 with AGP8X

Memory Address 0-E0000000-0xE7FFFFFF - NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge
Memory Address 0-E0000000-0xE7FFFFFF - NVIDIA GeForce4MX440 with AGP8X

Memory Address 0-A0000-0xBFFFF - PCI Bus
Memory Address 0-A0000-0xBFFFF - NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge
Memory Address 0-A0000-0xBFFFF - NVIDIA GeForce4MX440 with AGP8X

I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB - NVIDIA nForce2 AGP Host to PCI Bridge
I/O Port 0x000003B0-0x000003BB - NVIDIA GeForce4MX440 with AGP8X

Is there anyway of resolving these types of conflicts apart from reformatting my hard drive which I really don't want to do?

The only other thing I can think is causing it is my network connections as that seems to be one of the apps that disappears from the start menu when it crashes the first time. I had a look in my settings and it seems I have 2 network connections. One is a 1394 Connection - 1394 Net Adapter (currently disabled under instruction from my ISP when I had connection problems although it wouldn't allow me to delete it as my comp said it was in use) and the other is standard Local Area Connection - NVIDIA nForce MCP Networking Adapter - currently in use.

All the latest XP updates have been installed and I have Zone Alarm Pro and eTrust EZ Antivirus - all latest versions and have run Spybot. I am currently running through the disk cleanup, check disk and defrag process but if anyone has any ideas it would greatly appreciated.

Cheers
Ren

Ren,

I know it's been a few months since this post and you've probably found your answer, but.. Try removing 512 mg of RAM at a time.. I had this same type problem, reloaded the OS and programs, but the problem was still there. Turns out, it was some RAM that I recently installed.

cheers :-)

Cheers MusicMan - will give that a go. Have just been living with it to be honest as couldn't be bothered reinstalling everything.

Not sure what's actually inside it but will open it up this weekend and give it a go.
