Regedit tree

Hi,

I used the "regedit stays expanded" tweak and it works fine. However, what I REALLY wanted was the regedit screen to be maximized and the tree collapsed. The tweak gave me half of what I wanted.

With W98, when you exited the registry and went back, the tree on the left side was collapsed. In WXP when you exit the registry and re-enter it's opened where you left off.

Any ideas on how to have the screen maximized and the tree on the left collapsed?

THX,
Chris

I know what you mean and yes, it is highly annoying. the Favorites is a cool idea if you have to go right back to the same spot, but I hate being stuck somewhere in the middle of HKCR\.\.\.\some\key\I\dont\need\at\this\time when I first open regedit. Luckily, I have the fix for you though. It looks lengthy, but's just detailed.

Open regedit and set the display the way that you want it (completely collapsed)..
Close regedit
Re-open regedit and navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\Curre ntVersion\Applets\Regedit
Right-click on the key and choose permissions.
Click the Advanced button.
Uncheck Inherit from parent the permission entries... checkbox.
Click Copy to keep all existing user accounts.
Click OK.
Now remove Full Control from all the user accounts listed (Administrator, username, RESTRICTED, SYSTEM. yes, including your own).
Click OK
Now no one including yourself may save the window layout. This is reversible by re-adding the permissions.
