I ran the executable file, installed Realtek audio drivers, and Windows is still displaying "No Audio Device" when I go into "Sound & Audio Devices" - despite the fact that it does play standard Windows sounds.

Guess I'll have to cave in and purchase a new sound card.

you need to check audio enabled in the BIOS

all commands are done using the keyboard - see here - click images to focus
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...%20Control.JPG

as soon as comp boots press the DEL key the Main menu opens
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...241%20Main.JPG

use down arrow key to select Integrated Peripherals - press Enter
http://www.overclockeddoc.com/bookwo...Int%20Perp.JPG

Audio Controller should be set to [Enabled]

if [Disabled] use down arrow key to select

+ key to change to [Enabled]

press F10 key to Save & Exit

y key to accept changes

XP will load

install audio driver again

don't forget the Restore Point

MINE WONT WORK EITHER.

System sounds are fine. Sound drivers haave been installed and reinstalled a gazillion times. Windows audio is also enabled.

Have a toshiba satellite L100, XP.
Its been like this ever since it was reformatted.
I need my sound A prompt saying no sound device installed keeps popping up. On Control Panel its all grayed out but the hardware part says that everything- drivers included I presume- is working proplerly

have tried System Restore if it does not work get Belarc, copy and paste the report but leave out the win update section and the Software Licence section it gives your Win Product code
http://www.belarc.com/free_download.html

check Device Manager anything yellow flagged
Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager

check this to see if Realtek is default audio

Check Control Panel/ Sound & Audio Devices/ Audio tab/ Sound Playback click on down arrow and check that the correct audio is selected. Typically the problem will be they something like "modem line 0 playback" might have been substituted for the proper audio device

check Device Manager
Right click My Computer > Properties > Hardware tab > Device Manager

System Devices - is the Microsoft Universal Audio Architecture installed ?
