Question floppy appears to be write protected in Win XP

Hi folks
I have a
Dell Pent III
930 Mhz
256 Ram
Win XP SR1

I recently upgraded to Win XP and since that time if I try to write to the floppy I get a message indicating the disk is write protected. I have tried several disks, all of them write enabled. I have tried two Physical drives and two cables all with the same results.

I have reloaded the floppy drive and floppy controller drivers. I have not upgraded the drivers, mostly because I'm not sure what drivers to upgrade. MoBo? Disk drive? Dell offers a bios upgrade but not an XP MoBo Upgrade.

Is this a known issue? has anybody run into this before?

Thanks for any help!

yep i was getting the same problem about a year agho now and i ended up buying a new floppy drive for £11 and that sorted it out as everything i tyred to do to fix it failed, but maybe nothing as drastic as new hardware is needed for you. But maybe your floppy drive is no good for Xp. can you get your hands on another floppy drive to try that one?.

Well I guess I'll post this so someone else might avoid making the same stupid mistake.

It would appear that while I was reconfiguring this machine I set the BIOS to write protect the floppy drive. I changed the setting to write enabled and life is good.

This issue is resolved
