Clean installing winXP over winxp upgrade

Hey,

My computer had Windows ME and I upgraded to Windows XP Home Edition and after a while, I just wanna junk all of the other stuff, XP, all the ME stuff and just clean install windows XP on its own.

I have the full version, but I have no clue how to get rid of everything on my comp right now and how to install the full version.

I already tried to install it and everything went great then it said there was already an operating system on the drive and asked what I wanted to do with it.

There were 2 partition

1 on the C:\ and 1 on the D:\
I assumed I should install on the C:\ and thats when it said there was already an OS on it and said I should get rid of it or partition it for multiple OS's, even though its the WinXP upgrade on there.

So does anyone know how I can eradicate everything and full install windows?

Thanks,

Glen

Boot from CD, when option appears, delete partition C:
Then select to install to unpartitioned space. (partition will be recreated for you) use full format. NTFS or FAT, it's your choice.
Then allow the install to proceed.

well to boot from that cd (as long as it is bootable, which it probably is) u gotta reboot tha pc with that windows xp cd in tha drive and then it will either ask u to boot from cd and it will ask u to press a key to boot from cd or it will do it automatically, if not then u have to get into your bios and switch your first boot device to CD-ROM then save settings in tha bios and reboot.

if you dont like feel safe getting into your bios u can use this floppy disk creator program. (which i gave u links below)

once of these options should work if they dont u can create boot floppys using this program here to make it boot from cd (you will need about 5 floppy disks)

these are for "home edition"
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo..._EN_HOM_BF.EXE

and these are for windows xp "PRO"
http://download.microsoft.com/downlo..._EN_PRO_BF.EXE

the above files are for use with a non SP1(service pack 1) windows xp cd. (which u probably have)

also once u get it to boot it will give u an option to format tha drives, this is when u want to format drive c: (use the full format option) then after it completes EVERYTHING on drive C: will be gone this is when it will proceed to install windows xp

PROBLEM SOLVED!!!

I just turned on my computer today and it started in windows set up

I didnt have the windows CD in there so... im lost as to why it did this =S

ok so, stick in windows CD and reboot follow the windows set up and delete partition C:\ and then do what it does from there on correct?

Also, when I put in the disk, it loads windows XPs installing thing and asks what I want to do, I chose install typed in the serial number ect... should I go through this again?

Sorry for making sure on this, I dont wanna mess up
