restore point will not start

I recently reformatted my h/d and made a duel boot system with windows98 and windows xp pro. I installed windows 98 first then winxp. Everything is working ok exept for the restore point.
When I click on 'System Restore' I recieve this message:
System Restore Application has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Is there any way I can fix this?

Is your 'Dual Boot System' on a single partition or 2 partitions?

2 partitions. I would'nt know how to do it on a single partition.

if this is file corruption in windows, go to start run, type
sfc /scannow
drop in the xp disk you have and let it fix the files.
if you have some program, like anti virus, or system monitor software that prevents changes to the system you may want to make sure they are disabled before trying to run the restore.
also some of the more recent viruses disable system restore, why i dont know, cause it never really helps in a virus situation.
