problem with adsl connection

Hi..

im having problems with getting adsl connection to work on my new HP Pavilion a320 (bought yesterday). first time i plugged the telewell adsl modem on the usb port, windows xp installed it, but then i couldnt connect to internet nor try to install any new internet connection (its always something like "your pc is already configured for internet"). this is most likely because "easy adsl dial-up" (what does dial-up have to do with adsl ??) keeps coming back to internet connection setup no matter how many times i try to remove it.. im guessing its something to do with HP, but its extremely annoying because it doesnt let me use any other connection

and right now, after having reinstalled windows xp from recovery "partition" (something HP apparently has instead of xp cd's), and i cant even install drivers for telewell adsl modem.. xp keeps saying it needs some sys-file, which xp search feature finds on c-drive but the new hardware wizard cant find the file from that path.. (im guessing its something to do with the file being inside some system or cabinet files)

this is just weird it didnt install this time, would there be any way to access the sys file and install the modem driver ? if anyone knows the answer, thanks in advance...

Of course you can't connect, did you install the DSL dialer ? or you are running it off a router ? When you install the DSl dialer the software will install a PPOE protocol that you need to connect to the ISP.

I think you are under impression that when you have high speed you won't need to dial !!! that's only with cable modem. Install the dialer and get back to the board with your progress.

cheers

yeah thanks.. too bad i bought hp , they dont give windows xp cd (only "recovery partition") so i dont know if i can install dsl dialer.. this is weird anyway, on windows 98 adsl connection was usable right after installing windows 98 (as far as i can remember), without me having done anything at all (at least i didnt install dialer).. but thanks anyway

(i got the telewell modem to install now but the "easy adsl dial-up" keeps returning every time i try to remove it)
