Win XP Copy
I have no idea why JoshMcPot wants a copy of Win XP but it's true maybe since he is new to this HE THINKS he has a good reason to want a copy sent. I purchased a HP Pavilion with Win Xp Home installed, NO CD came with it as it was on a partition on the hard drive. I lost the hard drive after a year and called HP to see what they would do. At first they said they would send me a restore disk based on my Product Key and Serial Number. Then a few days later received an E-Mail to tell me to go buy a copy as they didn't have any more. I sent many E-Mails and also faxed Palo Alto, CA. with my problem and of course I haven't heard from them. Soooooooo I'm not looking for a pirated version either and will drop down to Win ME, but I can understand why some people would want a copy if given the chance to say without being scared off.

well, even if this is for a legitimate backup copy there would still be a few problems, 1 most of the places you get these files are file share(p2p). you will get corrupted copies at the very best. the last year has seen viruses in record amounts. some of these people who share these files, even though they dont know have virus infected copies, or ones that have been disinfected by a virus program. now say by chance you shopped early , or got a copy from a clean source, the only copy that will work is a copy of xp pro that has been on the net since xp was released, no matter where you get it it's the same one. i work on enough computers, i have run accross people with it everywhere, example, the first string from the key...fckgw....it's the same copy. to run this and update it you would have to have a crack, which, so many viruses are named XP sp1 fix, or xp keychange, and if they are not a virus, are you sure they are not spyware or scumware? example, F9 holder was a free utility for holding the mic button at paltalk and other voice chat programs, some copies were fine, some reported every passward you had to the (mothership). now you get a good copy and you got a crack that worked, "criminal was full of crap, haha got my xp for free". maybe so, you got it, burned it to cd, installed it,,,,,.......you had to upgrade cause it wont boot from dos. upgraded xp no matter what is $hi+. most of the problems i see here are from copies of "upgraded" xp, but when you tell people this , of course they dont believe this, because it was recommended by the install cd to do the upgrade.some of the people with a little sense got the 6 disk set and booted up this way, or made the cd image bootable, which i do with hp ,compaq, dell disk, i extract the I386, and make a bootable xp cd so i dont have to use the format and recovery cd to repair the system. anyway, i am not sure if service pack 2 will have any pirate copy sniffers like sp1 did, but it's nice to know when you have a legal copy you dont have to worry about it. also, o program called drive image, or norton ghost, nero burning rom can make a bootable (format and recovery cd) back up your system from time to time. may take several cdr, but they backup everything on your drive, and if , virus, system corruption, installed a program that went badly for your system......anyway at any rate, dont post in a open forum that you want to steal copy protected material, if you must do it, dont tell.
