WinXP on a Win2k domain
I have a small Win2k domain running with standard setup. I've had no problem in the past having workstations that edit/save/modify/etc files on a networked server, however my new computer which runs WinXP has all sorts of trouble.
For instance, I attempted to save a file from Photoshop onto a mapped network drive and half way through it told me the file already existed. The file did not exist until Photoshop tried to create it, in which it created a 0kb file. I then went to Windows Explorer to delete the file and it was gone. I then clicked the Refresh Icon and the file mysteriously reappeared. I can't even delete the file on the networked machine anymore because it's always in use by another user, but there are no other users.
I'm a programmer and I'm very fluent with computers and Windows, but there is something very strange or very buggy going on here. Is there anything that I have to set in WinXP to allow better network activity on a Win2k domain?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I do have a mix network of WinXP and Win2k and I haven't seen this error before, Although I have to say I know there are some issues with Photoshop 6.0 and WebDAV (Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning) but apparently is has been fixed with photoshop 7.0,,, What version are you running ? Are you able to save the file on the local drive ?

I am using PS 7. The problem doesn't happen only in Photoshop though. Sometimes if I click on the mapped drive through Windows Explorer it takes 20 or 30 seconds to bring it up or sometimes it will say that the drive is not connected, but the drive is connected and all I have to do is wait a few seconds and do it again. Another example is with Dreamweaver... all of my work files are on the mapped drive and for the past year in Win2k all I do is click the Save button and it quickly saves to the mapped drive, however with XP sometimes it cannot save the file or takes a long time to save the file.
It's almost like the network protocols are slightly different and they aren't communicating perfectly. The wierdest thing is 80% of the time everything works as expected, but 20% of the time it causes a lot of trouble.
Everything seems to work fine if I save to the local drive.

I have noticed the delay in opening the mapped drive too but not 20 to 30 seconds,, What I have done is enabled NETBIOS Over IP and also I modified the LMHOSTS file with IP address of the servers... Also, Open "My Network place" and remove all the old stuff (i.e. ftp site you visited long time ago, old network drive that are not active anymore) that should help out with finding the network drive a bit faster. (these are my way of getting around the problem, it may or may not work in your situation)

I'm not sure if this helped or not. My problem while saving files to a mapped drive in Photoshop still occurs, but browsing in Windows Explorer seems to work a little better.
One other thought... I am running Norton Antivirus now and I haven't had that on any other machine in the past. Does anyone know if it might scan files as I try to save them to a network drive?
