They have access to my computer!!!

My brother moved in with me from college recently and he has set up a home network. He has a mcse and something else and he is a network administrator. My problem is that I noticed the other day when he left his computer on that it looked like my computer. When I took a closer look I saw that he basically has full access to everything in my computer! I have personal files on their and it's really an invasion of my privacy. I could approach him but I think he will still find a way to get in their without me knowing. Is their a way that I can prevent him from accessing my computer and files without him changing it from his end. He would never go in and touch my computer personally. Thanks for your help.

Hi Ritaman52

The first thing I would do is turn off Remote Assistance that is built in to WinXP.
Click Start\Control Panel\Performance and Maintenance\System.
Click the Remote tab.
Uncheck "Allow Remote Assistance invitations to be sent from this computer".
Click Apply.

I would take a look in Add\Remove Programs for something like
PC-Anywhere or Remote Administrator.
If you are running a Firewall you could block his access if you knew what
program he is using.

I would also do a complete Virus Scan, just in case he gave you
a Trojan Horse.
If you don't have an anti-virus program
you can do an online scan here.

it's your house? pull the plug on him. if he set himself up right, it will be almost impossible to get him out, and if you do he will probably do it again, why he does this would be my main concern.

ok Ritman, theres no need to do what u were just told. There is 1 very simple way to deny him access to anything on your compuiter. To do it, go into Control panel>administrative tools>Local Security policy. this will open up with a menu type box on the side. Go into Local Policies>user rights assignment The firt policy in the list will say "Access this computer from a network, then it will say who has access. Double click on it. A pop up will appear and just remove anyone or everypne from it, sweet simple done, no more accessing your computer

Thanks everyone for the help. I think that has taken care of it. The concern with him is not that big. It's just that I have a few digital photos on my computer of my girlfriend that, let's just say, I do not want a 16 yr old kid seeing, ESPECIALLY of my girlfriend. Thanks everyone.

Not a bad idea to use encryption for sensitive data. Many free zip tools come with encryption.

zipgenious, izarc, and 7zip are examples.
