Question Installing Software in XP

Hi

I'm new this board and to XP. Hope someone can help me. I'm running XP Home (came with the e-Machine) and have it set up for 5 different users.

If I log on as the main user and install a piece of software (in this case MS Office Pro) the respective program icons only show up in that screen name. If I attempt to access the programs in another name (from the Start Menu) it appears to be asking me to install again. I want this software to be available to ALL users.

Question: Is there a way to install in xp so that the software is automatically available to all screen names? Or do I have to install 5 times?

Martin..

Thumbs up

Cheers Snow,

I didn't say so in the previous post but it's actually Office XP Pro, but I'm sure that makes no difference....

Not to worry, it isn't the end of the world, I just thought I might be doing something wrong or overlooking something. Always nice to have a second opinion.

Dont know if this helps, do your other users have limited acces, if so they need to be given admin access. If this is not what you want then maybe installing in the Documents and Settings-All Users or the All Users Windows. Worth a try.

the reason it installs this way, when you install office on your user account, if it installed to all accounts you would share your information if you wanted to or not, when you go to another account and install it, it does not make another full program, just sets up another user account for the program, and you can also customize the programs used by the account. some programs do this automatically, like yahoo messenger, install it then every time you make a user account, there it is. as with anti virus and firewalls, there settings are applied to all users, which you can do this with office, but you will have problems with overlapping accounts.

Thanks Barbara and Criminal.

Criminal, I think you hit the nail on the head. What you say makes perfect sense.

I deleted it and re-installed it. When I activated it in the individual accounts it needed the install discs to be in the drives, but I noticed it only took a few seconds and didn't do a complete install.

I had a feeling this was what was happening and your comments have confirmed it and calmed my fears.

Cheers you guys.

Martin..
