Service failing to start

When my system boots (xp pro sp1), I get a popup window that has says something like "network configuration utility failed to start" (paraphrasing). If I go to the event viewer, I get the following text explanation for this error:

The NDC Network Agent service failed to start due to the following error:
The system cannot find the file specified.

I have no idea what service this is, and I don't know what file it is looking for. My system runs fine, but the boot takes forever because until I get this error message.

Any ideas on what service this is, how I can figure out what file is missing, or other solution strategies. Thanks.

Is your system on any type of network - Local Area Network (LAN) or IWAN or Broadband Internet?

Run the Microsoft Configuration Utility ...

Start > Run > msconfig > OK > Startup ...

Are there any Startup Items that look similar to your error?

Yes, my box is hooked up to DSL via a router. I will look in msconfig and see if anything looks appropriate. I'll let you know what I find.

Nothing looks obvious. there is a startup item that is run by Norton by the name of "navapw32.exe". I suppose the "na" could be "network agent"?

navapw32.exe
that is norton anti virus application win32.exe
you either have a corrupt driver or program, i would first go to control panel/system/hardware/device manager, and see if any yellow ! or ? show up. if everything is fine, break out any cd disk you have from , your isp, your lan card, or anything(even printer) that installed networking services and reinstall, being the post is very vauge, this is all i can suggesst.
