Task Manager problems and others

I am havimng some very annoying problems. All of these don't happen in safe mode but only in normal mode.

1 The task manager does not stay open. If I am lucky, I can get it to open for about 2 seconds. The same is with regedit.

2. Word is not letting me save stuff. This is the only program that has a problem with saving.

3 For some reason I can't access the "My Computer" window. There is not one way that I have figured out that will let me explore folders and drive.

Finally...

4. The task bar keeps on "stalling". What I mean by stalling is that once I click on something to open anything on the taskbar it takes about 30 seconds to load.

If any one can help me, I would really appreiciate it.

Thank you,
LLAKL

Have you run a virus scan? If you don't have an anti-virus program, use this free one.

Also, these programs (free) will scan for things that may not be picked up by an anti-virus scan.

Those programs will scan for virus and possibly remove them if they can, you could try (as i've posted on several occasion now) doing a system file checker to replace any corrupt system files by going to command prompt (start - run - type: cmd) and using the following command:

sfc /scannow

be sure to have the xp install disk in the drive, it will scan through and replace any invalid system files it finds. If that doesn't work, do a repair install of windows xp. By booting with the install disk, and chosing to repair a previous installation of windows (not the recovery console, one step past that).
